Visit Grand Canyon: Pre-Post Logistics

If you're planning to visit Grand Canyon, make sure to familiarize yourself with the logistics requirements and plan ahead. Because the requirements, as well as transportation type, can change depending on the route. Most trips will require you to arrive one day earlier for an orientation meeting.
Logistics Information to Visit Grand Canyon: Full Canyon Trips

Full Canyon Trips

You will need to arrive a day prior for a trip orientation meeting, and lodging may be included in the price. You will travel either 188, 225 or 280 river miles depending on itinerary, and at the trip’s end, either ground transportation or a helicopter/charter flight exit back to your meeting location is included. Some trips that begin in Page, AZ or Marble Canyon can return you to Las Vegas at the trip’s end.
Meeting locations vary depending on the itinerary: Las Vegas NV, Flagstaff AZ, Marble Canyon AZ or Page AZ.
To Meeting Point: Ground and air transportation to these meeting locations are available.
Return at the trip’s end: Every itinerary includes a return to the meeting point by way of ground or air transport.

Upper Canyon Trips

You will need to arrive a day prior for a trip orientation meeting and lodging may be included in the price. You will travel 88 river miles near the Phantom Ranch on the final day. After hiking out of the Bright Angel Trail at the trip’s end, we recommend staying overnight at the South Rim.
Meeting locations vary depending on the itinerary: Las Vegas NV, Flagstaff AZ, Marble Canyon AZ or Page AZ.
To Meeting Point: Ground and air transportation to these meeting locations are available.
Return from South Rim: Ground transportation is available to Flagstaff AZ, Marble Canyon AZ, Page AZ and ground and air transportation is available to Las Vegas. If driving to Flagstaff, Page or Marble Canyon, car shuttle service is available and can transport your vehicle at the South Rim to be awaiting you at the end of your hike.

Lower Canyon Trips

You will need to arrive at the South Rim in Grand Canyon village a day prior to your start date. You will meet your group between 5:30-6 AM on day 1 and hike the Bright Angel Trail to begin your rafting trip. Orientations are either held at the river upon meeting the rafts, or in Flagstaff. Some itineraries will have you meet in Flagstaff 2 days prior and will transport you to the south rim as part of their itinerary, others may also begin in Las Vegas. You will travel from river mile 88 to one of 3 exit points: river miles 188, 225 or 280. On the final day, you will be transported either by vehicle or a helicopter/charter flight back the South Rim, Flagstaff or Las Vegas depending on the outfitter.

Western Canyon Trips

Western Canyon trips begin in Las Vegas at either the Desert Rose resort or at McCarran airport. On day 1, you fly via a charter flight to Bar 10 Ranch. Most trips include a day/night at the ranch while others fly helicopter directly into the canyon on day 1 for 2,3 or 4 days of rafting, hiking and camping the Westernmost 100 miles of the Colorado River from river mile 188 – 280.
Meeting locations in Las Vegas at either McCarran Airport or Desert Rose Resort.
To Meeting Point: Air and Ground transportation Las Vegas available.
Return at Trip’s End: Ground transportation back to Las Vegas included.
